MIRACLES DO HAPPEN
On April 9, 2005 at 1:20  AM Poor Girl gave birth to a big palomino filly as we watched.
The big filly struggled to stand. After not standing for several hours we loaded Poor Girl and baby into the
horse trailer, headed down to Country Side Vet Clinic. After taking her home we put splints on the big fillies
legs. Soon after she was up on her feet. Took the filly back to Country Side Vet Clinic on April 13,2005 to
have a better look at what was going on with her legs. Had x-ray taken and found prognosis to be very grim.
This beautiful palomino paint filly was crippled. Never being able to walk on her own, not wanting her to
suffer we had to make a very difficulty decision to put her to sleep. As we wept for her just 3 stall down a
miracle was about to happen. On April 14, 2005 at 4:30 AM Dee Dee gave birth. Watching her on the
camera in the house we rushed on down to give this first time mom some assistances. Walking into the stall
to our surprise there were two babies. A little palomino paint filly and a ever smaller palomino colt. Twin
foals don't come along very often, because of the potential problems, twin foals are undesirable, because of
high chance of complication. Problems such as spontaneous abortions, increased birth problems, small
foal size and lack of mothers milk for two. With chances of twin foal survival so low and chance of
complication with the mare so high, it is nothing short of a miracle when they occur. With the concern that
Dee Dee couldn't feed them both my husband started milking Dee Dee and feeding the smaller colt. Good
thing because his sister would not let him eat. After feeding him every hour for several hours, of the first milk
that they need to survive and build up there immunities. We called on Country Side Vet once again, they
recommended that we bring them down to have a better look and blood work. Just to make sure they were
healthy and doing fine. So we loaded up mom and babies and off we went. Arrived a Country Side Vet
Clinic, lots of attention on the unusual happening of twins. After drawing the twins blood, off they went to test
it. As we waited the crowed go bigger. They were the center of attention. Blood work came back and they
were doing well. Country Side Vet suggested that we put one of the foals on the mom (Poor Girl) who lost
her baby. We brought them home and took the little colt over to Poor Girl, they whinnied at each other and
bonded as if they were long lost mom and baby. As of March 18, 2006 both foals are doing fine and
growing quite fast. So who says there are no such thing a  MIRACLE.
64% of the time both foals are born dead.
22% of the time one foal is born alive.
14% of the time both foals are born alive.
Twins occur in one of every 2,500 births, with the number that survive much lower.
Thanks for the help, Damaris Miller, Donna Ackerman and Country Side Vet Clinic.
We couldn't have done it without you.

Thank you all
